As someone deeply immersed in the world of functional medicine and holistic health, I’ve always been passionate about helping others heal in the most natural, effective ways. But recently, my own journey through health challenges has given me a new perspective and deepened my understanding of what it truly means to heal, to be resilient, and to connect with the body on a deeper level.
An Unexpected Health Challenge
Like many of my clients, I found myself facing an unexpected health crisis that no amount of preparation could have fully equipped me for. Despite living a healthy lifestyle, my body was suddenly hit with long-haul COVID and ongoing gut issues—both of which sent my health into a tailspin. The virus seemed to target my body in ways I couldn’t have predicted, and the physical and emotional toll it took on me felt incredibly vulnerable, especially when I was so accustomed to being in control of my health.
The Perfect Storm
What started as lingering symptoms from COVID quickly became compounded by gut issues, hormonal imbalances, and a deep sense of fatigue that I couldn’t shake. It was a perfect storm—one I thought I had done everything right to avoid. As a functional medicine practitioner, I had tools and knowledge at my disposal, but this experience was a stark reminder that health is never just about following a set of rules. It’s about understanding the intricacies of your body and being open to the unexpected ways it may challenge you.
Healing Through Support and Collaboration
During this time, I leaned heavily on a network of incredible practitioners who guided me through the healing process. These weren’t just people I consulted—they became my sacred circle of support. From functional medicine specialists to experts in genomics and holistic healing, I found myself diving deep into areas I hadn’t explored before, seeking insights that went beyond traditional medicine. They helped me peel back the layers to uncover the underlying mechanisms affecting my body.
Finding Peace in Nature and Energy Medicine
While I firmly believe in the power of lab results and diagnostics, I also came to realize that healing can’t always be measured in numbers. I found incredible relief in reconnecting with nature and exploring resonance medicine, which integrates elements like frequency-specific microcurrent therapy. I immersed myself in the calming forces of earth, air, fire, and water—taking long walks in nature, soaking in the grounding energy of the earth beneath my feet, and harnessing the healing power of the natural world around me. It was a reminder that health doesn’t always need to be dissected; sometimes, healing comes from simply being in tune with the rhythms of the world.
A New Approach to Healing
This experience has completely transformed my practice. It’s led me to embrace a new approach that combines the science of functional medicine with the art of healing. I’ve come to describe it as “walking the talk,” where I connect deeply with my roots as both a practitioner and a patient. This approach allows me to guide my clients through a more holistic and personalized healing process, one that doesn’t just focus on fixing symptoms but truly understanding the body’s needs and rhythms.
Taking Time for Rejuvenation
In my quest for healing, I took a step back and temporarily relocated to a retreat space in Hawaii—a sanctuary where I could unplug from the distractions of daily life and focus on my own rejuvenation. There, I immersed myself in grounding practices, early morning sunrises, and quiet moments of reflection. These experiences became integral to my philosophy on health, reinforcing the importance of slowing down, reconnecting with yourself, and letting nature nurture your body and soul.
